April 19, 2015: Meet our Demonstrators!

Kurt Hertzog

Kurt Hertzog will share how to make your pens unique and how to make a stick pen. Kurt Hertzog enjoys the continuum of woodturning from making his own turning tools to photographing his finished turnings. He keeps his turnings diverse in an effort to explore fully the craft and the medium. As frequent demonstrator and instructor on all facets of woodturning, he particularly enjoys teaching tool sharpening, workholding, and advanced penmaking. Kurt is current president of American Association of Woodturners, which has more than 15,000 members and a network of over 350 local chapters globally representing professionals, amateurs, gallery owners, collectors, and wood/tool suppliers.

Barry Gross

Barry Gross will be demonstrating on-tube casting. He is a guest speaker / presenter at many woodworking shows and turning clubs throughout the northeast and has twice been chosen twice to demonstrate his pen techniques at the most recent AAW symposiums in Albuquerque New Mexico and Hartford Connecticut. Barry is inspired by nature and loves the texture and rich feel of each piece of exotic wood that he turns. In August 2012 Barry Gross purchased Arizona Silhouette and moved it to PA.

Charlie Wortman

Charlie Wortman will be demonstrating how to turn between centers and more. As a member of Catoctin Area Turners located in Leesburg, VA, Charlie has taken several awards from our previous MAPG contests with his skills and techniques in pen making. He and his wife Robin have also been working on a new website called ExquisiteTurnings.com.

Roy Robaldo

Roy Robaldo will be demonstrating How to Upgrade a Nib, Fill a Pump, and Basic Tuning. Roy and his wife Dee started Classic Nib with one product line Bock Nibs. They wanted their own niche in the market place and decided to welcome Vendor Partners who wanted a higher end place to show and sell their products. They now have many product lines and hundreds of products and are continuously adding product and Vendor Partners.
